Our learning philosophy

Inspiring curriculums, tailored to meet the unique needs of your child.

We believe that children are competent, powerful individuals, capable of influencing their own unique learning journey. At the YMCA, we believe in the ‘power of inspired young people’ – the belief that when young people are inspired, they are truly powerful.

Our Learning Principles

At the YMCA, there are six core principles that underpin our learning approach. These principles are reflected in our daily learning practises, the culture of our service and the development of our learning environments at our centres.

learning

See our principles

Enriched caregiving

Gaining a deeper understanding of children and their families.

That is why our teams use responsive strategies that encourage reciprocal conversations between educators and children, further enriching meaningful relationships built on trust, care and two-way learning so that we can cater to everyone’s individual needs.

Children’s Rights

Education is a fundamental human right for all children

We view all children as capable beings and adhere to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) particularly in relation to listening to children’s voices.

Health and wellbeing

Supporting children's personal growth and vitality

We provide children with positive physical education so that they learn about health, nutrition and acquire the skills to care for themselves through good hygiene practices.

Community Connection and Co-Design

Fostering a sense of belonging in every child

When communities and children are connected, everyone develops a deeper understanding of themselves.

Sustainability

We support children’s environmental rights and responsibilities

Children actively engage with the natural environment, developing reciprocal respect for our native land and its impact on our future.

Culturally Safe Environments

We shape a deeper understanding of local culture

We prepare culturally safe environments with a purposeful focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives within our programs.

Tailored Learning Curriculums

Ages 6 weeks - 5 years

Our curriculums are tailored to meet the individual needs of every child, at every stage of their development. We embed the National Early Years Learning Framework into our curriculums, to help build the capacity of the whole child.
